The invite link doesn't work

You opened an invite link or pasted a code and something went wrong. Find the message you see below. They're listed with the most common first.

The link or code doesn't lead to a chronicle any more. This usually means one of three things:

  • The link expired. A storyteller can make a link that lasts 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days or has no end date. The link made while a chronicle is being set up lasts 30 days unless the storyteller picked another length.
  • The storyteller revoked it. Often that's because they made a new one.
  • The code was copied wrong. Codes are 10 letters and numbers. Check you have all of it or paste the whole link instead.

Fix: ask your storyteller for a fresh link.

A link can be limited to a number of people and this one is full. People still waiting for approval count toward the limit. An invite sent by e-mail works only once, so a forwarded invite mail stops working as soon as one person has used it.

Fix: ask your storyteller for a new link or to raise the limit on a new one.

It ran out while the page was open. Ask for a new one.

"Membership could not be completed right now."

Something went wrong on the way in. Wait a moment and press the button again. If the message goes on to say your session could not be refreshed, sign out, sign in again and open the link once more. If it says your device clock is out of sync, set your computer or phone to take the time automatically and sign in again.

Sign-in doesn't finish

  • You opened the link inside another app like Discord or Instagram. Google sign-in often fails there and the page tells you so. Open the link in Chrome or Safari instead.
  • You land in a new empty account. You signed in with the other provider. Sign in again with the one your GhoulApp account uses (Google or Discord).
  • "Sign-in could not be completed." Try again or open the page in Chrome or Safari.

"Request sent" and nothing happens

That's working as it should. The link needs the storyteller's approval. The chronicle shows up in your list and you get a notification once they approve you. Remind them if it's been a while.

If you were invited by e-mail you'd expect to walk straight in. You only do when the account you sign in with uses the e-mail address the invite was sent to. With any other account the invite turns into a request like a normal link.

"Invitation not found."

This one is for an invitation sent to your username. A link never shows it. You see it if:

  • you're signed in with a different account than the one invited
  • the storyteller cancelled it

If the page says you already accepted it or that it "has already been resolved" you answered it before. An accepted one means you're already in, so look for the chronicle in your list.

Fix: check which account you're signed in with. If you're in the right one ask the storyteller to invite you again.

You left or were removed and want back in

Any invite that still works lets you back in, including the chronicle's usual join link. If your request was turned down you can send a new one from a link that still works. If every link has expired the storyteller has to send you a new one.
