My character won't join the chronicle

You opened Characters in the chronicle and your sheet is greyed out under Select a sheet or you picked it and got an error. Here are the causes, the most common first. Hover over a greyed-out sheet and the list tells you which one it is.

The sheet is for a different edition

A chronicle only takes sheets that match its edition:

A V6 sheet can only join a Custom chronicle. A sheet in the wrong edition is greyed out with a line like "This chronicle uses V5. This sheet is V20." If someone tries to bind it another way they see "Chronicle is locked to V5. A V20 sheet cannot bind to it."

Fix: make a character in the chronicle's edition. When none of your sheets fit the panel says so and offers Open Character Creator, which opens the creator in the right edition and binds the new character when you save it. If your table plays mixed editions, ask the storyteller whether the chronicle should be Custom. They can change the system in Settings.

The sheet is already in another chronicle

A sheet can be in one chronicle at a time. The list shows "This sheet is already bound to another chronicle." If all your sheets are taken the panel reads "No available character ready".

Fix: open that other chronicle and press Unbind on its Characters page or make a new character for this one.

The sheet isn't on your account

A character you made without signing in lives only in this browser. It doesn't show in the list at all.

Fix: move it into your account first. Sign in on the same browser where you made it. The home page lists it under On this device with Import to account. Once it's imported it shows up in the chronicle's list.

There's no Your Character panel

The panel is only there for players. If you joined as an observer or a moderator you don't get one, because those roles don't play a character.

Fix: ask the storyteller to change your role to player.

Your join request is still waiting

If you used a link that needs approval you aren't a member until the storyteller approves you. Until then the chronicle doesn't open for you.

Fix: wait for the storyteller or remind them. The chronicle shows up in your list once you're in.

The sheet is a pre-made or was copied as an NPC

A pre-made character from the chronicle's pool isn't bound from your list. If you try you see "use the pre-made pool flow for pre-made characters". When the storyteller lets players choose, claim one from the Pool tab instead. That tab is there while you don't have a character at the table yet. If the storyteller allows more than one claim it stays.

A sheet the storyteller already copied into the chronicle as an NPC can't be bound there as well. That one fails with "character is already imported as an NPC in this chronicle".

You see cards and no list

When the storyteller has given you more than one character at this table the panel shows them as cards and the picker goes away. The storyteller manages that list. Your choice there is which one is your Primary.
