My unfinished character is gone

You started a character, left the creator and now it's not under Continue creating on your home page. Drafts live only in the browser you made them in. So most of the time the draft is in another browser or the browser has thrown it away.

First check the list isn't folded. Continue creating shows your three newest drafts. If you have more a button such as 2 more at the top of the list opens the rest.

Then work through these in order. The first ones are the most common.

1. You're on a different browser or device

Drafts aren't saved to your account even when you're signed in. A draft started on your phone doesn't appear on your computer. A draft started in Chrome doesn't appear in Firefox.

Fix: open GhoulApp in the browser where you started the character.

2. You're signed in to a different account or signed out

A draft started while you were signed in belongs to that account. It's hidden when you're signed out or signed in to another account.

Fix: sign in with the same account you used when you started it. If you've used both Google and Discord try the other one.

3. The browser's data was cleared

Clearing your browsing data, site data or cookies for GhoulApp deletes the drafts with it. So does closing a private or incognito window. Some browsers and cleaning apps clear site data on their own.

Fix: there isn't one. A draft has no other copy. Next time finish the character and save it while you're signed in. Then it's kept in your account.

4. It was finished or thrown away

A draft leaves the list when:

• you pressed Save on the last step. It's a saved character now. Look under Your characters on your home page or on your profile. If you weren't signed in when you saved it look under On this device.
• you chose Succumb to Oblivion in the Suspend the Embrace? box when leaving the creator.
• you pressed Start Over on the Summary and confirmed it.
• you deleted it from the list. Both lists ask "Delete this unfinished character?" first.

5. It was made inside a chronicle

A character started from a chronicle's creator is kept apart and never shows on your home page. Open that chronicle's creator again and you're asked whether to continue it.

If you left that chronicle's creator while you were still on the character type or concept step the draft wasn't kept. In a Custom chronicle the same goes for the Era step before them.

6. You hadn't entered anything yet

A character with nothing chosen or written isn't saved as a draft.

Drafts from before the creator changed

Maybe you had an unfinished character from an older version of GhoulApp. The creator copies it into the new list the first time it opens in that browser, so it shows up under Continue creating like any other draft.
