Can I use GhoulApp without an account?

Yes. You don't need an account to make a character or to play from its sheet. The difference is where the character is kept.

Where a guest character is kept

Without an account a finished character is saved in the browser you made it in and nowhere else. GhoulApp has no copy of it. The front page lists these characters under On this device with a note that they have no backup.

That means a guest character is gone if:

  • you clear your browser's site data or cache
  • you use a private or incognito window, which forgets its data when you close it
  • you open GhoulApp on another phone, computer or browser. It won't be there because it was never anywhere but the first browser.

Characters you started but didn't finish are kept the same way. They wait under Continue creating on the front page, on that device only, until you finish or delete them.

Move your characters into an account

Sign in with Google or Discord (see How do I sign in?). If the browser holds characters made as a guest GhoulApp offers to move them into your account.

On a new account this is the Your sheets step of Set up your account. Every character found in the browser is listed. Untick any you don't want or use Select all and Clear all. Leave Make them public off to keep them private to you and choose Continue. Keep them here for now skips the step and leaves them in the browser. If some couldn't be moved the step says how many. Those stay in the browser and nothing is lost.

On an account you already had a window opens called Unsynchronized Records Found:

  1. Choose Review & Import. If you aren't ready Remind in 2 Weeks asks again later and Don't Ask Again stops asking.
  2. Every character starts ticked. Each row shows its name, edition and clan. Untick any you don't want to move. Back returns to the first question.
  3. Leave Make Records Public off if you want them private. Turned on the characters are visible to other users in the community hub.
  4. Choose Import Selected.
  5. When you see Migration Successful choose Close. The page reloads with the characters in your account.

From then on the moved characters are saved to your account and you can open them on any device where you sign in.

A character leaves the browser only after its copy in your account is saved. If an import fails the character stays where it was and you can try again.

If you said no to the question you can still import later. Signed in the front page shows On this device with an Import to account button that opens the same steps.

Unfinished characters don't need importing. When you sign in on the same browser they become yours and stay under Continue creating until you finish them.

What an account adds

Signed in, every character you finish is saved to your account instead of the browser. You also need an account to run or join a chronicle and to have a profile.
