The V20 sheet

  • OzzAuthor and editor

This guide walks down the main page of a V20 sheet. For the pages along the bottom, the top bar and how the sheet saves see Find your way around the sheet. A Dark Ages sheet is built the same way with a few changes, which are in The Dark Ages sheet.

Who the character is

The top holds the name, the clan and the details: Nature, Demeanor, Sire, Generation, the ages and Sect. Hover over the clan to read its Clan Weakness. Hover over Nature to see how the character regains Willpower.

Generation is a list that starts at 15th. Each entry names its tier: 15th and 14th are Thin-Blood, 13th and 12th Neonate, 11th to 9th Ancilla, 8th to 6th Elder and 5th and 4th Methuselah. Generation sets the blood pool below. If the character has the Generation Background the sheet uses whichever of the two is lower.

To play 14th or 15th Generation take the Fourteenth or Fifteenth Generation Flaw. Picking 14th or 15th from the list without the Flaw keeps the character at 13th.

How low the list goes depends on Dynamic elder dots under Display. With it on the list runs down to 4th and the highest Attribute, Ability and Discipline rating follows the Generation. It's on for new characters. Changing the Generation on the sheet also turns it on unless you switched it off yourself. With it off the list stops at 8th. An elder built at 7th Generation or lower in the creator still reaches 4th and so does any vampire while Free Edit is on.

Attributes and Abilities

Attributes come in Physical, Social and Mental columns. Abilities are split into Talents, Skills and Knowledges.

  • Press a trait's name to add it to a dice pool. See Roll dice from the sheet.
  • With Spend XP on the name buys the next dot instead.
  • An Attribute or Ability at 4 dots or more gets a free specialty slot (+ specialty).
  • A clan whose weakness sets Appearance to 0 has Appearance locked.

Disciplines

With Spend XP or Free Edit on Add learns a new Discipline. The first dot costs 10 XP for a vampire and 20 for a ghoul or a revenant. The prices after that are in What XP costs in each edition. Raising a Discipline in Free Edit fills in that level's power. For a blood sorcery like Thaumaturgy the sheet asks which path first. Pressing the name of Potence, Celerity or Fortitude adds it to a dice pool.

Thaumaturgy, Necromancy and the other ritual traditions get a ritual card of their own below. See How do I learn a ritual?

Merits & Flaws

One card holds Merits, Flaws and Backgrounds. Its Edit button turns on Free Edit.

The trackers

V20 has five cards: Health, Willpower, Blood Pool, Humanity (or your Path) and Virtues. You mark them in the editor while you play and they wait for you to press Save.

Health

Health has seven levels: Bruised, Hurt, Injured, Wounded, Mauled, Crippled and Incapacitated. Hover over a box to see its level and dice penalty.

  • Press an empty box to add 1 Bashing (a slash).
  • Press a Bashing box to turn it into Lethal (an X).
  • Press a Lethal box to turn it into Aggravated (an asterisk).
  • Press an Aggravated box to heal it.

Aggravated fills first from the left, then Lethal, then Bashing. Under the boxes the soak line shows SOAK B/L (Stamina + Fortitude) and AGG (Fortitude). Press either one to roll it.

The Huge Size merit adds a Bruised box. With Spend XP or Free Edit on you can add more boxes up to 10 for a house rule. Adding one with Spend XP on reminds you that this isn't an official V20 rule. No XP is spent.

Willpower

The number of boxes is the permanent Willpower rating. The blue boxes are the points the character has left to spend.

  • Press a filled box to spend down to it.
  • Press an empty box to fill up to it.

With Spend XP on + raises the permanent rating up to 10. Pressing the Willpower title rolls it.

Blood Pool

Press a box to set how much blood the character has. The card shows the pool as current and maximum (like "8 / 12 BP") and under it Max/Turn, how much blood can be spent in one turn:

Humanity or a Path

The card is titled Humanity or the name of the character's Path. - and + change the rating in the editor and each change asks you to confirm. If the Path has a bearing it shows as Bearing:.

With Spend XP or Free Edit on Choose Path opens the list of Paths of Enlightenment. Picking one renames the card and the Virtues to fit the Path. Dots you already have stay as they are. On a Path hover over the footer to read its Hierarchy of Sins. The rating you're at is marked.

Virtues

Three rows of five boxes: Conscience, Self-Control and Courage. A Path can rename them to its own virtues. Press a box to set the virtue to it. Press the last filled box to lower it by one. Press a virtue's name to roll it.

The other pages

A V20 vampire has no Hunting page. Haven holds Feeding Grounds. Possessions has Add From Catalogue for weapons and armour.

Ghouls, revenants and mortals

  • A ghoul has a Vitae Pool of 10 and can spend 1 per turn. The Vitae & Bond page holds the ghoul's type (Vassal or Independent) and the blood bond from 0 to 3.
  • A revenant picks its Revenant Family on the same page. The page then shows the family's Disciplines, weakness and patron clan.
  • A mortal has Health, Willpower, Humanity and Virtues. There's no blood pool, Generation or Disciplines. Haven is called Residence.
