V5 combat and hunting aids

  • OzzAuthor and editor

Two storyteller tools under At the table take the arithmetic out of a V5 fight and a V5 hunt. They use V5 rules only. Opening one while you're set to another edition switches you to V5. Neither writes anything to a character or a chronicle. You can copy or export what they show.

The other two V5-only tools, the Resonance Roller and the Thin-Blood Alchemy Workbench, have their own article: Resonance Roller and Thin-Blood Alchemy.

Action Combat Toolkit

A calculator for the fiddly parts of a V5 fight. Five tabs run along the top: Zones, Explosives, Vehicles, Combat options and Damage. The side of each tab lists the rules it uses. The toolkit has no Roll button, so R does nothing here.

Zones

Pick the Origin Zone and the Target Zone, how many Zones crossed (0 to 12) and the Attack type, Physical or Ranged. The result shows the dice the Movement Minor Action costs and whether the target is In range or Out of range.

A zone can carry aspects like cover or smoke. Press Add a positive aspect or Add a negative aspect to add one, give it a name and set its dice. A zone holds up to three of each and an aspect is worth at most 3 dice either way.

Explosives

Choose the Blast type, Concussive or Incendiary, the Blast band, the Winning margin (0 to 20) and any Weapon bonus. You get the Total damage and its type.

Vehicles

Enter the Winning chase margin, the Ramming vehicle (a car, an SUV or a garbage truck) and any Aggravated vehicle damage. Both numbers go from 0 to 20. You get the penalty for the losing side, the driver's penalty, the ram bonus, the chase and ram pools and a typical vehicle's Health.

Combat options

The rules for a Brutal Attack with who can use it and what it risks, then lists of common and alternate attack pools.

Damage

A Health tracker for everyone in the fight. Up to 20 combatants fit.

  1. Give a combatant a Name, their Health (Stamina + 3, up to 15) and their Kind, Kindred or Mortal.
  2. Press Add or Enter in the Name field.
  3. On their row set the damage (1 to 20) and choose Superficial or Aggravated. Tick Halve it, rounded up for Superficial damage that's halved. Press Apply.

Mend 1 Superficial and Mend 1 Aggravated heal one box. When a track fills up its row says "Impaired: -2 dice on Physical pools." A track full of Aggravated damage puts a Kindred into torpor and leaves a mortal comatose or dead. Mortal rows also remind you that blades, piercing weapons and gunshots deal Aggravated damage to mortals.

The list stays in this browser, so it's still there if you reload the page.

Hunting Scene

Plays out a V5 hunt in one roll. Press Roll the hunt or R.

  1. If you're signed in and have a V5 vampire the page starts with Hunter. Pick one of your characters or None, set by hand. A character fills in its Predator type, pool and Hunger. When its coterie holds a domain in a chronicle it fills in that domain's Chasse too. The sheet is only read.
  2. Under Predator set the Predator type and the Approach. Another approach gives you a different one with its pool set by hand. Adjust the Pool, any Bonus or penalty dice and Hunger. A Predator type that isn't in the book's list always has its pool set by hand.
  3. Under Hunting ground pick the area. The number on each is its Difficulty: Slum 2, Bohemian or blighted 3, Working-class or downtown 4, Industrial or suburban 5 and Wealthy 6. You can pick Coterie domain instead. There Chasse 1 sets Difficulty 6 and each further dot lowers it by one.
  4. Set the Security. Heavier police adds 1 to the Difficulty and heavy security adds 2. Add a Storyteller adjustment for anything else. Tick Large gathering for a festival, a rally or a riot. It lowers the Difficulty by 2 but never below 1.

Result shows the dice and what happened. A win means the character fed. A messy critical feeds with a mess the troupe picks. A bestial failure means a Compulsion. A failed roll with at least one success may be offered as a win at a cost.

Victim describes who you found, with their Resonance and any Dyscrasia. Another victim draws a new one and keeps the roll. Under Resonance in this place you can set the Resonance a place gives. The temperament is still rolled. The side of the page lists how much Hunger each kind of feeding slakes.
