The Harpy Ledger

  • NeronAuthor

The Harpy Ledger is the court's record of boons: who owes whom, how much and where each debt stands. You'll find it in the Table group of the chronicle's menu. The boons themselves are written in the Boons section. The ledger is where the keepers of the record read them all at once, rule on disputes and clean up.

The ledger opens for the storyteller and co-storytellers. It also opens for a player whose character holds the Harpy or Chancellor title. Nobody else has it in their menu.

Its name follows the sect

The words change with the chronicle's sect, which the storyteller sets in Settings.

Titles exist only in a Camarilla chronicle. In Anarch and Sabbat chronicles the ledger belongs to the storytellers alone.

The tabs

Overview is the front page of the record. It counts what stands at each stage (awaiting approval, open, called in, disputed and settled) and you can press a stage to jump to it. Under that are the disputes awaiting a ruling, anything awaiting approval and the breakers. In a Camarilla chronicle the storyteller also sees the title holders here.

Waiting gathers what needs someone to act: disputes that need a ruling and any entry still waiting for approval. Ledger is every public boon on the record. Filter it by State with All public, Open, Called in or Settled. The breakers tab (Boon Breakers in a Camarilla game) lists the characters, coteries and NPCs marked for breaking a boon. Titles is where the storyteller hands out the court titles. It's there only in a Camarilla chronicle and only for storytellers.

At the top, All boons opens the Boons section and Consolidate opens the tool for merging entries. Press Back to the ledger to close it again.

Ruling on a dispute

When one side disputes a boon it waits under Awaiting a ruling. The storyteller or a title holder presses Rule and picks a Ruling. Upheld as recorded leaves it as it stands. Raise the weight and Lower the weight change it to the New weight you pick. They only show when there's a heavier or lighter weight to move to. Void closes it for both sides and keeps it in the record as void. Broken by the debtor closes it as broken and lets you mark the debtor as a breaker too.

Press Apply ruling to make it final.

Approvals

A boon a storyteller writes today goes straight onto the record as Open. Some older entries still wait for approval. The storyteller presses Approve on one waiting for them. A title holder can read those rows but can't approve them. A public entry can then wait for the Harpy, who presses Ratify (Record in Anarch and Sabbat chronicles). The storyteller can do both steps.

Consolidate

Consolidate merges open entries between the same two parties into one. Tick at least two entries of one pair, pick what they merge into under Merge into (Minor, Major or Life) and press Consolidate. It works on one pair at a time. If no two open entries share the same parties there's nothing to merge.

Breakers and titles

On the breakers list Clear mark removes someone's breaker mark after asking you. Entries the mark cancelled stay cancelled.

To give a title open Titles, choose the Player character and the Title and press Grant title. The holder can then open the ledger, ratify, settle and rule on disputes. Their seat at the table doesn't change. Unseat next to a holder takes the title back.

Names in the ledger follow Facades. A title holder who isn't a storyteller sees a character's Facade name and not the real one.
