Messages
On this page 7
Messages is the chronicle's private mail. Anything for the whole table goes in the table's feed. Messages is for what only some people should read: a player writing to the storyteller, a storyteller writing to one player or a small group and players writing to each other if the storyteller allows it.
At the live table press in the bar at the top. The inbox opens beside the game (on a phone it slides up from the bottom) and Open all messages takes you to the full page. You can also reach Messages from a played session's page and the storyteller has a Messages button on the XP page too. Observers don't have Messages.
The page
Threads are listed on the left and the open thread on the right. The filters at the top are All, Unread and This session. Storytellers also get Questions and Aftercare.
The top of each thread says who can read it, for example "Only you and the storytellers can read this." People are named by their character at this table or by their profile name if they have none.
Type in the box at the foot of a thread and press Enter or the arrow to send.
Start a thread
- Press New message.
- Under To pick who it's for.
- Write your message in the box below.
- Press Start thread.
As a player you write to Storyteller unless you pick someone else. Every storyteller at the table reads that thread with you. If the chronicle allows it you can tick other players instead. A thread is either with the storytellers or between players, so picking a player clears Storyteller.
As the storyteller you tick one player or several. Several players make a Scene group. Your co-storytellers can always read your threads.
Writing to the same people again adds to the thread you already have with them.
Questions for the next session
A player can press Question for next session, write the question and press Send question. The storyteller sees it while preparing the next game. Only the player who asked and the storytellers can read it.
The storyteller answers in one of two ways. Answer at the table marks it to be dealt with during play. Mark answered opens a short answer field. Write a line the player can read and press Mark answered again.
From the table feed
While you write in the live table's feed you can change Who reads this from Table to Storyteller or to chosen players. The line under the box says who will read it. The message then goes to Messages and not to the feed. You see "Sent to" with the names and an Open button.
Delete, save and limits
There's no edit. You can delete your own message from its menu and it then reads "Message deleted" for everyone. Save to my notes copies a message into a private note that only you can read, with a link back to Messages. A message can be up to 2,000 characters. If you send too many in a minute you're asked to wait a moment.
You won't get a popup for a new message. The Messages button and each thread show how many are unread.
Players writing to each other
The storyteller decides this in Settings on the Features tab under Messages between players. It starts on Off and players can then write only to the storytellers. Players can message each other; the storyteller can read opens player threads that the storytellers can still read. Players can message each other privately opens threads only the players in them can read.
Each thread keeps the rule it started with. Changing the setting later doesn't open or close older threads.
The aftercare box
When a session ends players see A word for the storyteller, a short note on how the night went that only the storytellers read. Write a Message and if you like A moment you liked and Something you wish for, then press Send to the storyteller. Choose With my name or Without a name first. Without a name your name isn't stored, but at a small table the storyteller may still guess. You can also write one later from the session's page in the chronicle with Write to the storyteller.
Each word arrives as its own thread under Aftercare and can't be replied to. The storyteller can turn the box off with Aftercare after a session on the same Settings tab. Words already sent stay in Messages.
