End a session and save it

To close the night open the Session menu and press the red End button at the bottom. The app asks "End this session for everyone?". Press End session to close the table for every player or Keep playing to go back. If ending fails the table stays live and the app says to try again.

Leave is the other button there. It only takes you out of the table and the session keeps running for the others. You can come back in with Join session from the chronicle.

The Session ended card

Everyone then sees a Session ended card with how long you played. Leave session takes each person back out. The card has no close button of its own.

What's on the card depends on who you are.

If you're the storyteller and the night started without a planned session you'll see a Session title field with Save to story and Discard. The title is filled in as "Session" and the next number. Saving files it in Story like any other session and the card says "Session saved to the story." Discard asks first because it deletes the session and its play time.

If you leave without choosing you can still save it later. The start page offers it for 48 hours after the session ended. See Start a live session.

When your chronicle tracks XP in the app the storyteller also gets Grant XP. If the session is saved it's already picked in the XP window. How the grant reaches each sheet is in XP requests and approvals.

What players get

Players get two things of their own on that card.

Write to the storyteller sends you a private word about the night, unless your chronicle has turned that off. It has room for a message, a moment they liked and something they wish for. They choose With my name or Without a name. Only storytellers read it. On a computer it's a button at the foot of the card. On a phone it's a row inside the card.

Note for myself saves a note only they can read, filed in their notes with this session.

People who don't support GhoulApp on Patreon also see a short note asking for support.

Other ways a session ends

A session also ends when the storyteller stays away from the table too long. The card then says "The session ended because the storyteller was inactive." A session nobody has open closes after 6 minutes and says "The session closed after 6 minutes with no one connected." Both are explained in Why a session ends when nobody is active.

What stays afterwards

The session keeps its page in Story with the recap, who came and the XP you gave. Every roll and chat line from the night is in the Chronicle Log where you can read it back or use it to fill in the recap.

This works the same in every edition.
