Commands in the chat box

Type / at the start of the chat box under the feed and a list of commands opens. You can also press Commands in the box on any device. ↑ and ↓ move through the list, Enter or Tab picks one and Esc closes it. Picking only writes the command into the box. It runs when you send the line.

The commands list open above the chat box with the Storyteller tag on /narrate and /as

The list opens while the line is a single word starting with /. Capital letters don't matter. Players see four commands and storytellers see six.

CommandWhoWhat it does
/me runs for the dooreveryoneDescribes what your character does.
/narrate The lights go out.storytellerA line of narration for the whole table, shown over the stage.
/note Ask about the ringeveryoneA player's note is saved to the chronicle's notes. A storyteller's is a note to self that also goes in the night's log.
/w Ana see me aftereveryoneWhispers to one person through Messages.
/as Guard: Halt!storytellerSays a line in character under whatever name you type.
/r 7 h2 d3everyoneRolls a pool.

Anything that isn't one of these goes out as ordinary chat. That includes a player typing /narrate or /as.

Whispers and NPC lines

For /w the longest name that matches wins, so "Ana Maria" reaches Ana Maria even if there's also an Ana. A player who whispers to a storyteller reaches all the storytellers. If nobody matches the app says "Nobody here is called" and the name you typed. With no name at all it says "Write a name, then the message".

With /as the name comes before a colon. Without a colon the first word is the name. Names are cut at 60 characters. Nothing is looked up, so it never reveals an NPC. A line with no text after the name shows "Write a name, a colon, then the line".

Rolling with /r

/r uses the dice system your tray is set to. That starts as your bound character's edition, so most of the time it matches your sheet. If you changed System in the tray's dice settings it follows that.

  • In V5 /r 7 h2 d3 rolls 7 dice with 2 Hunger and needs 3 successes. Hunger goes from 0 to 5 and the difficulty from 1 to 10. When your character is bound to the chronicle the Hunger on your sheet wins over the number you typed.
  • In V20 and Dark Ages /r 6 d7 s rolls 6 dice at difficulty 7 and the s adds your specialty. The difficulty goes from 2 to 10.
  • In V6 /r 6 d2 rolls 6 dice with 2 removed for difficulty.

A pool can be 1 to 25 dice. The marks can come in any order after the pool and the first word that isn't a mark starts the roll's label, like /r 7 h2 Strength + Brawl. If the app can't read the line it shows "Write the pool like" with an example for your system.

In every system you can write two trait names in place of the number, like /r strength brawl. That doesn't roll. It fills the tray with the pool from your bound character so you can check it and press Roll yourself. Without a bound character you'll see "Bind a character to roll its traits."

A /r roll follows the tray's eye. If a storyteller has Hide rolls from players on or a player has a private roll armed the roll goes out hidden.
